Day 3: Breath of Fire – This is a short exercise that will help you train and strengthen your diaphragm for greater endurance. Learn how to activate the primary breathing muscle – the diaphragm. It is important to breathe efficiently and by engaging diaphragm fully we can achieve that. Due to our modern day lifestyle factors we often become upper-chest breathers due to sitting at our desk at work or home on the couch or constantly being in the high stress state where we take only shallow upper chest breaths. If you observe small children or your pets – they breathe abdominally and by practicing this simple exercise you can reprogram your body to breathe diaphragmatically. This type of breathing is more efficient, since by design diaphragm is meant to be drawing the air in, not your chest and shoulders. Lower lobes of the lungs provide improved gas exchange ratio and greater volume, so by drawing the air lower into the lungs we can greatly improve this process.
