Below you will find hip rehab programs currently available on Yoga for BJJ.
Proper hip mobility is not only crucial for jiu jitsu, but day-to-day life as well. If you’re feeling pain in your hips, stiffness, limited range of motion, clicking in the hips, check out these two rehab programs below.
They are filmed by Rosi Sexton, our licenced osteopath, UFC veteran and BJJ black belt. She specializes in rehabbing grappling injuries, please follow her instructions carefully.
Do consult your physician/physiotherapist first if you suspect you have a more serious injury, you can even show them these exercises beforehand!
With FAI/hip impingement comes restriction in movement, particularly in flexion and rotation of the hip. It can also be pretty painful. Forcing stretches won’t improve the condition, it could even aggravate the problem.
Gentle stretches will be key here. We’ll focus on the control of the muscles around the hip joint, which will enable you a greater range of motion.
This program is suitable for a range of different diagnoses to do with pain in the hip flexors(it can be an acute tendonitis or it can be a more chronic pain).
Most of Jiu-Jitsu involves the hip flexors. So if those hip flexors are out of commission it means we are most likely out of commission. The days progress in difficulty so you can go through at your own pace and repeat each day as many times as you need to.
